Dr. Bruce Eimer is a licensed clinical and forensic psychologist as well as an NRA certified law-enforcement firearms instructor. He has been shooting guns for longer than he has been a psychologist. Growing up in New York City in the 50s and 60s only cops and robbers had guns. That changed when Bruce went to college in upstate New York, and then when a friend was murdered in a home invasion robbery. His interest turn to all things armed and unarmed self-defense. After the attack on the United States on September 11, 2001, Bruce became a graduate student of defensive firearms. He became an NRA instructor and went to Gun schools all over the country, including Thunder Ranch, Defense Training International, Louis Awerbuch’s Yavapai Firearms Academy, the NRA Law Enforcement Instructor Development Program, and Lethal Force Institute to name a few.
Bruce started Personal Defense Solutions, LLC in 2004 at the same time he began writing for the fledgling Concealed Carry Magazine which later became the flagship magazine for the United States Conceal Carry Association. The column Bruce wrote for 10 years from 2004 through 2014 he named The Legally Armed Citizen.
In 2011, Bruce founded the Defensive Handguns Forum and he currently owns and manages this small but active online firearms discussion forum, which has been dubbed the politest gun forum on the Internet. Originally the name of the forum was www.NewToGuns.com. He changed it to make it more appealing to everyone to www.DefensiveHandguns.com. Bruce invites you to check it out.
Bruce authored ARMED: The Essential Guide to Concealed Carry, published in 2012 by Gun Digest Books. His co-authored Essential Guide to Handguns: Firearm Instruction for Personal Defense and Protection, was published in 2007 by Looseleaf Law Publications.
Bruce specializes in training people new to guns. The most important instruction you’ll ever get is your introduction to firearms. This will determine whether you stick with it or never train again. Bruce is thoroughly dedicated to helping people who are new to guns become motivated to acquire a thorough education on all relevant aspects of the use of firearms (especially handguns) for defensive purposes.
With a PhD in educational psychology and a doctorate in clinical psychology, Bruce is an expert in both adult learning as well as in psychological therapy. He prefers to help people prevent trauma as opposed to having to treat them after-the-fact. Nevertheless, his extensive studies with Massad Ayoob, taught him the importance of preparing for a lethal force encounter as well as the legal aftermath.
As Clint Smith of Thunder Ranch has said repeatedly, we train to avoid using our skills. But if we are forced to use our skills, we need to be prepared and ready. Bruce, who has been a long time member of the Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network professes, the fight to protect your rights and your freedom after a deadly force encounter is only exceeded in importance by the primary fight save your life during the fight with the attacker.
When you train with us, you will learn how to manage both aspects of the “fight for your life”. You will learn how to avoid a fight, what to do if you’re in one, and how to handle yourself in the aftermath-since you will win the fight and survive.
You will fight in an emergency as you’ve been trained. And to make matters more pressing, your skills will degrade under the stress of a life-threatening situation. So train well and be well-trained. And choose your instructors wisely.
